Media Release 2018 2

International Gynaecological Awareness Day Progress

After our meeting on 12th July 2018 with the President of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Vice-President of Global Health to discuss their support of the International Gynaecological Awareness Day (IGAD) campaign.  I am more than elated to say they have agreed to celebrate IGAD.

A short history: Jeanette Preston (UK Founder of Pants Cancers) and myself as cancer survivors visited the college in 2008 to seek support for IGAD which was the planted seed to see this day come to fruition.  So I encourage others to join in the campaign to help share greater education and acceptance as said by the President that Gynaecological Health should not be TABOO.  Thanking all those who have supported in the past.

Thanks to Patricia Hamilton and her team.  It was great to have the opportunity to share our GYN Health knowledge and to listen to some of the devastating stories especially young women enduring Polycystic ovaries and Endometriosis and many searching for answers and suffering in silence.  This only re-iterates the prime need for the International Gynaecological Awareness Day celebrations to not only give voice to these women, create a greater community education and support and most of all greater funding and research.  I encourage you to plan your event and help promote your business though the Gynae Awareness day 2018

Not So Secret Women’s Business

A Cuppa With……..Kath Mazzella

What every rural woman needs to know about women’s health – including how to be armed with information to make smart choices about your own body and how to assist your daughter in managing her health and wellbeing.

Using humour and a personable approach about what has been a historically ‘taboo’ subject, Kath Mazzella will deliver a powerful presentation that you won’t want to miss.

Sharing her own personal journey, Kath will bring to light important women’s health information that could be life changing for you and your family.

About Kath Mazzella

Cancer survivor and advocate on women’s health, Kath Mazzella is a passionate about better awareness and treatment of women’s gynaecological, sexual and related mental health conditions. After her having radical gynaecological surgery to remove cancer, Kath Mazzella discovered how little women knew and talked about conditions “down there”, and how many women were suffering in silence.

This empowered Kath to go on a journey, together with her husband Tony, promoting this very worthwhile and necessary message, extending it beyond the education of women, to also reach the men that surround their worlds. Kath has received over thirteen awards in the area of raising awareness for women’s gynaecological health and in 2009 she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her service of the community through raising the profile of gynaecological health. Kath was inducted into the 100 WA [Western Australia] Hall of Fame.

“People probably don’t realise that the woman sitting next to them on the bus, the train, in their office, or at the doctor’s surgery may have some kind of gynaecological, sexual or related mental health condition that she is having to daily manage. They probably don’t realise that it is not only affecting her, but also every person in her immediate circle of influence, and that the cost to the community can be very high, especially if the condition remains undiagnosed or is diagnosed too late”—Kath Mazzella

Subject: RE: World Discussion GYN Health – Call for support – Intern. GYN Aware Day & UK Intern. Gyn Day

Thankyou so much sista for making contact with me today, it was lovely to catch up. You have my 100% support with your push to raise awareness and hopefully impact on prevention of women’s business when it comes to vulva and other cancers. I will certainly be pushing to have our day on 10/9 this year, I’m fairly confident that the management here will support the day with no problems. As I said to you on the phone Kath, you have saved the lives of countless woman because of your dedication to this very important womens health issue called Vulva Cancer. You have given me the knowledge and in turn I have shared this knowledge with women from my community who also have been saved as a result of being empowered to look after their own bodies. What amazes me in society is that its acceptable to people that porn is viewed, looked at or read about in the home or wherever but we shouldn’t talk about Vulva Cancer?????????? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I say get over it to everyone out there, to the men out there they can do their bit by encouraging their women to take a more active role in looking after their bodies, its in their best interest if you know what I mean. So much work to be done and let me assure you I will always stand beside you on this very important issue Kath. Thankyou for helping me help my community.

Lots of love and warm wishes for continued good health and happiness
Sharon
